A rare nickel plated bronze or solid brass1930 french art deco chandelier by. The shade in thick pressed-moulded opalescent glass in a typical art deco design that unites a geometrical pattern and nine stylized roses. The opalescent semi-crystal bowl is milky bluish when the light shines on it and shows beautiful tones of amber when light is shining through, as we know from the best opalescent glasses like pieces by Sabino Lalique Verlys or Ezan. The pendant is 44 cm (17-3/8″) high and the bowl has a diameter of 33 cm (13-3/4″). The bowl is signed EJG France on the rim. The chandelier is in very good condition. No damages to the shade. The last picture shows a small discolorated spot which is original and inside the glass. Typical for handmade pre war glass production. The mounting is replated and patinated. It is rewired with three european E14 sockets. For the US I will place three US candelabra base ones. I could also place a B22 bayonet one, for instance for Australia the UK or France. Check out over 250 other French art deco lamps in my shop. Visit my store: paravas com. French lamps and wiring. Art deco lamps made in France were equiped with B22 bayonet sockets. For most countries like Europe or the US such sockets are practicaly impossible to use. For instance in the States 110 volt bulbs with B22 fitters are obscure, very hard to find and only one model bulb in very limited wattages is available. In spite of what sellers of unrestored pieces of poor quality claim in their ads when they offer lamps with bayonet caps sockets : except for the UK and Australia French chandeliers and lamps need to be rewired for your country. In order to fit Edison large or small screw base bulbs as used in the USA, B22 sockets have to be replaced by American candelabra base or standard/medium size Edison screw-in sockets. E14 and E27 are modern replacements for European countries. An additional complication is that the size thread used in early French lighting to connect the sockets to the chandelier mountings or lamp bases is not compatible with the modern size threads used in the USA and Europe. New American or European sockets do not just screw on to the old lamp fixtures. In order to make it possible to use an original old French chandelier or lamp with modern screw bulb bases, a specialized restorer will have to re-tap the threads. All my cleaned and restored chandeliers, sconces and lamps come rewired with the correct sockets you will need to use modern bulbs in your country. F I N E S T I N T H E W O R L D! A R T D E C O N U B I A N P R I N C E S S S C U L P T U R E / L A M P. ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT & INCREDIBLY RARE! S I G N E D B Y F R E N C H S C U L P T O R S. M E L A N I. 21″ Wide x 14″ Tall x 6 Deep. The French mastered the sensuous nude sculpture during the Art Deco period and S. Melani is one of the most renowned and talented of the deco era sculptors! In 1925 France held the “Exposition des Arts Decoratifs” from which the term Art Deco originates. At the same time Josephine Baker was dancing the “Danse sauvage, ” at the Folies Bergère and was the most famous dancer alive at the time. Her almost nude costumes and erotic dances were the toast of Europe and high society embraced her as a cultural icon. It was at this time and under these cultural influences that S. Melani sculpted this masterpiece – a Nubian Princess on a Canoe rowing. While some black sculptures were springing up at this time, few commissions and works emerged from the most famous sculptors. Racial prejudices still influenced the inclusion of black representation in fine art. Melani was one of the “high society” sculptors who bucked this trend – now all incredibly rare & valuable – with a handful of pieces. This unparalleled artistry is the result! A blend of grace, sensuality, and Deco style all tied together with a historic theme! The anatomical representation is perfection. Melani worked with live models and it shows in the exquisite and beautiful details! This sculpture is enormous – and over 20 inches wide. It serves as an accent lamp as well with her “fire bowl” illuminating when the lamp is plugged in. Wiring is original with a North American plug on the wrapped silk cord. Lamp uses euro bulbs. (Two will be included) This artwork is more than merely beautiful, but is also an important piece of art history documenting the transition and evolution of black representation in the art world. This piece made possible later works by Hagenauer, Barsony and others. What sets this work apart is S. Melani didn’t utilize any caricature or stereotyping in his depiction and tried to convey the inner beauty of this woman just as much as any physical beauty. This trait of “spirituality” or “soul” is evidenced in many Melani works – creating inspiring pieces one adores gazing upon! This original work is amazing in so many ways! Few plaster sculptures of any size survive 80 years. This very large sculpture has survived unscathed with no breaks or serious damage. For the most discerning and astute collector! A wonderful addition to your NY penthouse, CA atomic ranch or UK summer home! A F r e n c h , A r t D e c o S c u l p t u r a l M a s t e r p i e c e. The richly decorated mounting is very heavy and of excellent quality. The four glass panels are two different models, two of each. These models were produced by Verreries des Hanots (Like Verlys one of the brands of the Holophane company). The chandelier has a height of 77 cm (30-5/1 inches) and is 47,5 cm wide (18-11/16). It’s in very good condition. I have replated the mounting and patinated it. It comes newly wired. It holds four European E14 sockets. For the US I will place US candelabra base ones. A wonderful 1930 art deco desklamp in nickel plated solid brass or bronze of excellent quality. The base holds a very rare superb shade in frosted and partly polished molded-pressed glass of thick quality. This rare model is never signed. From old catalogues we know it was used by Ranc freres on modernist chandeliers around 1932. It is unknown which French glass company made these shades for Ranc and other producers of art deco lighting. Could be Schneider or Ezan. Or perhaps Muller freres or Degué. The lamp has a solid heavy base done in massive cast brass, It is marked B. Soem technical details show me it was produced by a Belgian factory around 1930. The height of the lamp is 33 cm (13) and the shade has a height of 14cm. The lamp is in excellent condition. I have renickeled the base. It is rewired with new cloth covered twisted cord and is equiped with. A new european E14 socket. For the States I will wire the lamp with a US candelabra base socket and US 2-prong plug. I can also wire for Australia. Check out over 250 other French art deco lamps in my shop. Visit my store: paravas com. French lamps and wiring. A signed french 1930 art deco chandelier in nickel plated bronze and brass holding three wonderful slip shades in thick moulded-pressed glass signed EJG. Slip shades in the shape of palmtree leaves were popular in the 30ies. Most large glass factories had their own versions. To my humble opinion the two models EJG made are the nicest of them all. The chandelier is in excellent condition. At the bottom inside of the glasses all three shades have chips. It are no damages. To fit in the mounting the maker of the chandelier who bought the shades for it at EJG took some of the glass of. Its on the inside and hidden by the fixture. The lamp is replated and it comes rewired. It now holds european E14 candelabra sockets. For the US I will replace them for american candelabra base ones. B 22 bayonet cap sockets for France the UK or Australia are possible as well. The chandelier has a drop of 65 cm (25-5/8). The diameter of the lamp is about 50 cm (19-5/8).
