A signed French art deco chandelier around 1930 in nickel plated bronze or solid brass holding a beautiful bowl by Degué in frosted pressed glass. It´s is in very good condition. I have renickeled and patinated the authentic fixture. The shade has a diameter of 35 cm (13-3/4). The chandelier has a height of 54 cm (21-1/4). The chandelier is rewired and holds three european E14 sockets. For the UK France or Australia I can place B22 bayonet cap sockets. For the US I will wire it with US candelabra base ones. Check out over 250 other French art deco lamps in my shop. Visit my store: paravas com. French lamps and wiring. Art deco lamps made in France were equiped with B22 bayonet sockets. For most countries like Europe or the US such sockets are practicaly impossible to use. For instance in the States 110 volt bulbs with B22 fitters are obscure, very hard to find and only one model bulb in very limited wattages is available. In spite of what sellers of unrestored pieces of poor quality claim in their ads when they offer lamps with bayonet caps sockets : except for the UK and Australia French chandeliers and lamps need to be rewired for your country. In order to fit Edison large or small screw base bulbs as used in the USA, B22 sockets have to be replaced by American candelabra base or standard/medium size Edison screw-in sockets. E14 and E27 are modern replacements for European countries. An additional complication is that the size thread used in early French lighting to connect the sockets to the chandelier mountings or lamp bases is not compatible with the modern size threads used in the USA and Europe. New American or European sockets do not just screw on to the old lamp fixtures. In order to make it possible to use an original old French chandelier or lamp with modern screw bulb bases, a specialized restorer will have to re-tap the threads. All my cleaned and restored chandeliers, sconces and lamps come rewired with the correct sockets you will need to use modern bulbs in your country. The item “DEGUE FRENCH 1930 ART DECO CHANDELIER. André Neut & Charles Schneider. André Neut was a french designer with a lighting shop in Paris. The shades of this large chandelier were ordered at the famous glass factory of Charles Schneider. All ten glasses on this chandelier are signed A. But the panels can also be found with the signature of Schneider and the outside shades exist in an unsigned version as well. Meaning this model glasses were not exclusively made for André Neut but could be ordered at Schneider by each designer or retailer and Neut ordered them with his own signature pressed in the glass. This high quality french chandelier shows all the typical art deco elements making this style so popular and sought after. The lamp has a drop of 86 cm (33-7/8″) and is 74 cm wide (29-1/8″). It’s in excellent condition. I have renickeled and patinated the fixture. As you can see on the last two pictures there is a small spot with a hairline in the bronze. It´s not a damage. The chandelier is rewired with european E14 sockets. For the US I will replace them for US candelabra base ones. Check out over 250 other French art deco lamps in my shop. Born in 1901 Pierre Gire, working under the alias of Pierre dAvesn or sometimes written as dAvesne, started his carreer as designer in the factory of René Lalique where he worked untill 1926. For four years he worked independantly having his models excecuted by the Cristallerie de Saint-Rémy. In 1930 he became the artistic director of Lorrain the factory of Daum freres specialized in mainly moulded-pressed glasses. He left Lorrain in 36 to be the director of Verlys and Verreries des Hanots both factories of the Holophane company. Nowadays Pierre d´Avesn is concidered to be one of the leading designers when it comes to moulded-pressed art deco glass ware. Check out over 250 other French art deco lamps in my shop.
