Egyptian Perfume Lamp with signed Lustre Art Glass Shade – Art Deco. This 100% complete signed Lustre Art perfume lamp has a beautiful Art Deco Egyptian motif made by WB company (Weidlich Brothers Manufacturing Company from Connecticut) around 1920. This company made many nice art metal pieces from around 1905 until around 1930. They bought the art glass pieces from several nearby companies– this one came from Lustre Art glass company and it is beautifully decorated with a heart and vine design and fine gold glass applied all around. There is a very– and I do stress very –shallow shell-shaped flake on the inner portion of the fitter rim where the signature is located. It does not come through the other side and is completely concealed when the lamp is assembled. This lamp retains the original socket, pull, perfume tray, and heat cap. The base features lots of Art Deco design elements including scarabs, flowers and Egyptian decorations. Very hard to find with all of the original components intact. A very rare 1928-33 Degué perfume burner. Wonderful as night lamp too. The forged iron fixture holds a ceramic shade signed Degué. It was designed for Degué by Cazaux a well known French ceramist that was commissioned by David Guéron as the artistic director of la. Cazaux designed a small series of ceramic perfume burners. I know 5 or 6 different models. All with brown and black enamel on a white ground. This one has a nice art deco figuration inspired on Japanese design, of bamboo plants. That nicely match the arms of the wrought iron base. The piece is 12.8 cm high. It is in excellent condition. It comes wired with a European E14 socket. For the UK France or Australia I can place a B22 bayonet cap socket. For the US I will wire it with a new US candelabra base one and 2-prong plug. Check out over 200 other French art deco lamps in my shop. Visit my store: paravas com. French lamps and wiring. Art deco lamps made in France were equiped with B22 bayonet sockets. For most countries like Europe or the US such sockets are practicaly impossible to use. For instance in the States 110 volt bulbs with B22 fitters are obscure, very hard to find and only one model bulb in very limited wattages is available. In spite of what sellers of unrestored pieces of poor quality claim in their ads when they offer lamps with bayonet caps sockets : except for the UK and Australia French chandeliers and lamps need to be rewired for your country. In order to fit Edison large or small screw base bulbs as used in the USA, B22 sockets have to be replaced by American candelabra base or standard/medium size Edison screw-in sockets. E14 and E27 are modern replacements for European countries. An additional complication is that the size thread used in early French lighting to connect the sockets to the chandelier mountings or lamp bases is not compatible with the modern size threads used in the USA and Europe. New American or European sockets do not just screw on to the old lamp fixtures. In order to make it possible to use an original old French chandelier or lamp with modern screw bulb bases, a specialized restorer will have to re-tap the threads. All my cleaned and restored chandeliers, sconces and lamps come rewired with the correct sockets you will need to use modern bulbs in your country. French Art Deco Porcelain Perfume Lamp by Argilor Paris, Ca. 1920's

Width: 7 1/2 inches. His rare porcelain “Brule Parfum”, or perfume lamp was manufactured by Argilor of Paris in the early 1920′s. Arge in scale, this cleverly stylized and most unusual group composition depicts a female tamer, draped in ancient-style Greek tunic, who is standing in front of her elephant in the circus arena after a successful performance. Listen carefully, can you hear the enthusiastic audience applause? Legantly bowing to the unseen spectators, the beautiful redhead tamer is pressing a huge bouquet of flowers to her breast, while offering a treat to the elephant which is taking it from her outstretched hand with its trunk. He opening at the top of the flower bouquet is intended for a few drops of perfume which will be warmed by the light bulb concealed inside the elephant and then emit a pleasing scent. Elightful multi-color details are picked out against the white background of the elephant and the tamer’s tunic. Ounted on the original wooden base, covered with black leather. The whole porcelain part of the lamp is in excellent condition. The leather, covering the base has splits and tears due to age and usage. Please refer to photos, they are a part of the description, as well. Arked “Argilor Paris” en verso. Ragrance lamps come from a time before modern-day air purification and sanitation products existed. The original fragrance lamps were invented in France as a necessity to prevent the spread of air born disease and illness in hospitals and medical clinics. The designs of fragrance lamps (also known as effusion lamps) (from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) were not originally decorative, nor were the oils fragrant. Lcohol was the primary fuel used to heat the catalytic burner seated directly atop the fragrance lamp. The alcohol based fragrance oil would travel up the cotton wick attached directly to the catalytic burner. After the burner became saturated it was lit with a match until the flame heated the stone to a red glow. Upon proper heating the flame was then blown out and the magic of the lamp began to work. The now heated stone atop the lamp would pull the air in the room down through the heat and into the fragrance lamp. The resulting pressure from inside the lamp would then be released back into the room in the form of sanitized air. La Tee Da fragrance lamps, which using a catalytic technology and a low temperature, flameless wick, replace unwanted smells with wanted ones. Or the next 100 years fragrance lamps remained strictly a tool for the purpose which they were intended. After more sophisticated sanitation devices entered the market the fragrance lamp was no longer needed, but others began to see another market potential. Ome fragrance has been around for thousands of years, but only with more common devices: candles, potpourri, spices, heated oils and other popular methods were and are still being used. However, none of the previous devices have any other useful properties besides fragrance and sometimes decoration. In fact some of these can even cause airborne problems such as allergies, and release soot into the air, but not fragrance lamps. Ragrance lamps now come in an infinite number of designs to suite anyones style, and the fragrance oils also come in an equally impressive number of scents. From traditional to modern, shabby to chic, floral to fruity and spicy to sweet, fragrance lamps and fragrance oils are sure to please everyone. Fragrance lamps have much more to offer a home, office or studio than any other means of fragrance. We know – once you try one, you will never go back! COLLECTING WITH ASHVILLE FINE ARTS.
